The Beading Queen: Inventor of Crazy Beading

What is Crazy Beading?

I transform the opulent embroidery stitches found on crazy quilts into beading patterns.  I have been exploring and transforming embroidery stitches into beading stitches for fifteen years. I call this type of beading: Crazy Beading. My recent book Bead Creative Like Crazy has directions, illustrations, and patterns necessary for Crazy Beading. I have written the book so even a beginner can be successful.

For many years I have wanted to make a beaded crazy quilt about my state Minnesota. An invitation phone call to have a quilt in a special exhibit for the Minnesota History Center spurred me to actually do it!

Beaded Crazy Quilt

47" by 47"

Mostly silk fabrics, pieced into blocks using the crazy quilt method of piecing. The majority of the imagery and embellished stitches are hand beaded with tiny glass seed beads. 850 hours of construction time. Each of nine 14-inch blocks represents an aspect of  my life in Minnesota.
